The TURING project participated in the AI, Data and Robotics Forum (ADRF 2026), held on 13–14 October 2026 in Porto, Portugal, contributing to discussions on the role of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Europe’s strategic sectors.

On 14 October, Konstantinos Tserpes (ICCS/NTUA), TURING Project Coordinator, represented the project in the session “AI in Strategic Sectors: Manufacturing, Mobility, Energy & Climate, Healthcare”, organised by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The session brought together four Horizon Europe-funded projects — TURING, COSMIC, DMaaST and PRIMI — showcasing how advanced AI technologies are being developed and applied to address challenges across critical scientific, industrial and societal domains. Alongside Konstantinos Tserpes, presentations were delivered by Rafael Monge Palma (COSMIC), Doru Stefan Andreiana (DMaaST) and Alessandro Di Nuovo (PRIMI).

Can We Trust AI with Critical Physical Systems?

Under the title “Can We Trust AI with Critical Physical Systems?”, Konstantinos Tserpes presented TURING’s vision for developing robust, explainable and trustworthy AI models capable of supporting complex scientific and engineering applications.

The presentation highlighted the opportunities offered by AI to accelerate computationally demanding simulations, while addressing a fundamental challenge: ensuring that AI-generated predictions remain consistent with physical laws, reliable under changing conditions and interpretable by domain experts.

Drawing on TURING’s application domains, the presentation explored the potential of trustworthy AI in nuclear engineering, meteorology and particle physics, including applications in reactor safety analysis, high-resolution weather forecasting and particle detector simulation.

It also outlined TURING’s approach to integrating physical knowledge into scientific foundation models, alongside methodologies for improving robustness, generalisation, uncertainty quantification, explainability and computational efficiency.

Contributing to Europe’s Trustworthy AI Ecosystem

Through its participation in ADRF 2026, TURING contributed to the broader discussion on translating AI research into reliable technologies for strategic European sectors.

The session provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange among EU-funded projects addressing different AI applications, highlighting shared challenges related to trustworthiness, robustness and real-world adoption.

As TURING progresses towards the development and validation of its unified AI framework, engagement with the European AI, Data and Robotics community remains important for exchanging expertise, strengthening synergies and supporting the future uptake of project results.

From faster predictions to trustworthy decisions — this is the ambition driving TURING forward.
