TURING was represented by ETH Zurich at the 9th World Conference on Structural Control and Monitoring – 9WCSCM 2026, held at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, from 19 to 22 July 2026.

On 20 July, ETH, as part of the Turing Project, organised the Special Session S021, entitled “Context-Aware Hybrid Twinning for Real-Time Engineering Decision Support.” The session took place at The Diamond building of the University of Sheffield and featured three scientific presentations.

The session addressed research areas including population-based structural health monitoring, digital twins, hybrid simulation and intelligent infrastructure. The presentations and subsequent discussions explored how context-aware modelling and hybrid twinning can strengthen the monitoring, prediction and real-time assessment of complex engineering systems.

These research directions are closely connected to TURING’s work on trustworthy and robust AI for complex physical systems. In particular, the session highlighted the importance of developing models that can account for changing operating conditions, integrate physical and data-driven knowledge, and provide reliable support for real-time engineering decisions.

The participation of TURING in 9WCSCM provided an opportunity to present project-related research to the international structural control and monitoring community and to exchange knowledge with researchers working on digital twins, structural health monitoring and AI-supported engineering.

We thank the ETH Zurich team, the contributing authors and all participants for the productive scientific exchange.
